Job Opening: Journalist for the English Edition – Rabat
Assahifa English is seeking a full-time Journalist for its English-language edition, based at the newspaper’s office in Rabat.
We are looking for a talented, ambitious, and highly motivated journalist with strong reporting instincts, sound news judgment, professional curiosity, and excellent English writing and editing skills. The successful candidate will help deliver accurate, insightful, and engaging coverage of Morocco to an international readership.
This position goes beyond translating articles published in the Arabic edition. It involves producing original journalism in English and adapting stories to the interests, expectations, and cultural context of a global audience.
Key Responsibilities
- Write and edit news stories, reports, interviews, features, and investigations in English.
- Cover political, economic, social, cultural, and institutional developments in Rabat and across Morocco.
- Produce original reporting that explains Moroccan and regional issues to international readers.
- Edit and adapt content from the Arabic edition without relying on literal translation.
- Conduct interviews with public officials, experts, diplomats, business leaders, and local and international stakeholders.
- Verify facts, sources, figures, and documents before publication.
- Monitor international media and news agencies for developments related to Morocco.
- Propose original story ideas and editorial angles consistent with the newspaper’s editorial standards.
- Work closely with editors, photographers, video journalists, and the digital team.
- Travel within Morocco or abroad when required for reporting assignments.
- Respond quickly and accurately to breaking news while meeting publication deadlines.
Required Qualifications
- At least two years of professional journalism experience, preferably in reporting, digital news, or English-language media.
- Excellent command of written and spoken English, with the ability to produce publication-ready copy.
- Strong command of Arabic; proficiency in French will be considered an additional asset.
- A clear, natural, and professional journalistic writing style, rather than literal or mechanical translation.
- A solid understanding of Moroccan public affairs, institutions, politics, the economy, and society.
- The ability to explain local developments and their broader significance to readers unfamiliar with the Moroccan context.
- Strong research, fact-checking, interviewing, and source-building skills.
- The ability to work independently, exercise sound editorial judgment, and perform effectively under pressure.
- Familiarity with digital publishing tools, content management systems, and social media platforms.
- Knowledge of English-language SEO and digital audience development is an advantage.
- Experience covering breaking news and working under tight deadlines is highly desirable.
- A strong commitment to accuracy, fairness, editorial independence, and journalistic ethics.
- Residence in Rabat or the ability to work regularly from the newspaper’s Rabat office.
- Availability to travel within Morocco or internationally when required.

We are not simply looking for someone who can translate or rewrite news. We are seeking a journalist who can identify meaningful stories, ask the right questions, look beyond official statements, and provide readers with context, clarity, and original reporting.
The ideal candidate will understand how to present Morocco to an international audience without resorting to stereotypes, promotional language, or oversimplification. They should be capable of developing reliable sources, producing exclusive stories, and contributing to journalism that is accurate, independent, and relevant.
