The Kingdom of Morocco and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia share a distinguished relationship based on friendship, constant solidarity and the ambition of the leaders of both countries to raise this relationship to the highest level, said, Thursday in Rabat, Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccans abroad, Nasser Bourita.
Relations between the two countries are "unparalleled" in Morocco's foreign relations," Bourita said at a joint press briefing with his Saudi counterpart, H.H. Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud at the end of their talks on the sidelines of the 13th session of the Morocco-Saudi Arabia Joint Commission.
Morocco's top diplomat noted that talks with his Saudi counterpart were an opportunity to discuss bilateral and regional issues, stressing the "absolute" convergence of views between the two kingdoms.
These talks, Bourita added, were an opportunity to assure H.H. Prince Faisal bin Farhan of Morocco's absolute solidarity with Saudi Arabia regarding its security and stability and Rabat's condemnation of anything that could undermine it. Morocco also voiced its support for all the measures taken by Saudi Arabia to protect its territory and the safety of its citizens.
Bourita also expressed thanks and gratitude to Saudi Arabia for its firm positions on the Moroccan Sahara issue and on issues concerning the higher interests of the Kingdom of Morocco. These positions have always been "unwavering and expressed with clarity at all levels," the minister said.
According to Bourita, talks with his Saudi counterpart were an opportunity to discuss regional issues and ways to coordinate positions on them.
Morocco's FM highlighted the existing opportunities at the diplomatic level, by working together in joint initiatives within Arab, Islamic and international organizations, noting that "Morocco and Saudi Arabia enjoy credibility and representation within these organizations."
"We can work in joint initiatives on many issues such as food security and development in Africa among others," Bourita stated.
This meeting, he said was also an opportunity to reaffirm Morocco's support for all the candidacies of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, upon the instructions of HM the King. In that regard, he recalled the statements of the Royal Cabinet that reaffirmed Morocco's support for Riyadh's bid to host the Universal Exhibition "Expo 2030".
Regarding the 13th session of the Morocco-Saudi Arabia Joint Commission, Bourita said it is an opportunity to review all issues affecting relations between the two countries and examine ways further develop and promote fruitful bilateral cooperation.
This session, he said, is an opportunity to expand the legal framework for bilateral relations through the signing and preparation of agreements and MoUs to open up new areas of cooperation, such as the green economy and digitalization.
According to Bourita, the convening of the Joint Committee after nine years was an opportunity to reactivate this important mechanism of bilateral relations.
The reactivation of this mechanism "gives us the opportunity to enrich the legal component and talk about sectoral cooperation and to strengthen the integration of new actors in bilateral relations (private sector, investors and other stakeholders), the minister said.
"The humanitarian aspects of this relationship are very important and must always be reinforced," Bourita concluded.
