French billionaire lawmaker Olivier Dassault died on Sunday when his helicopter crashed near Deauville in the northern region of Normandy, French news agency AFP reported, citing parliamentary sources and those close to the investigation.
French President Emmanuel Macron paid tribute to the 69-year-old member of the National Assembly in a tweet.
"Olivier Dassault loved France. He was a captain of industry, a member of parliament, a local elected representative, a reserve commander in the air force: Throughout his life, he never stopped serving our country and making the most of its assets," the president wrote.
"His sudden death is a great loss.
"Thoughts to his family and loved ones," Macron said.
Dassault was a scion of the founding family of the aerospace engineering company Dassault Group.
