A Royal Navy patrol boat assisted, Wednesday during two separate operations, about 50 km northeast off Laâyoune, two pirogues in difficulty carrying 131 Sub-Saharan would-be migrants, including 27 women and 8 minors.
The pirogues intended to reach the Canary Islands, the General Staff of the Royal Armed Forces said in a press release.
The rescued people received first aid onboard before being handed over to the Royal Gendarmerie for the usual administrative procedures, the same source noted.
