Death Toll At 27 In Indian Gaming Zone Fire

The death toll rose to 27 from a massive fire in a gaming zone in India's western state of Gujarat, officials said Sunday.

The fire broke out late Saturday in Rajkot, trapping several victims, including children.

A senior fire official in Rajkot told Anadolu that the death toll stood at 27. "The fire was doused and those admitted were shifted to hospitals," he said.

While the cause of the fire is yet to be determined, authorities formed a special team to investigate the tragedy.

State Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel visited the site early Sunday to assess the situation.

Indian Prime Minister said the "fire tragedy in Rajkot has saddened us all."

"My thoughts are with all those who have lost their loved ones. Prayers for the injured. The local administration is working to provide all possible assistance to those affected," he wrote on X.

And at least six newborns died in a fire that broke out at a children's hospital in New Delhi late Saturday.

Suresh Kumar, an official with the Delhi Fire Service told Anadolu that six of 12 infants who were rescued, later died in the fire in Vivek Vihar.
