U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken has expressed the United States' gratitude to King Mohammed VI of Morocco for the country's humanitarian contributions to Gaza, emphasizing the importance of Morocco's support for President Joe Biden's proposal to achieve a lasting ceasefire in Gaza and secure the release of all hostages.
“The Secretary conveyed his gratitude to King Mohammed VI for Morocco’s humanitarian contributions to Gaza,” stated U.S. Department of State spokesperson Matthew Miller in a release issued Monday. The statement followed by a phone conversation between Blinken and Moroccan Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita.
Blinken also highlighted the critical role of Morocco's backing of President Biden's initiative, which aims to foster a more integrated, peaceful, and stable Middle East, according to Miller.
“The Secretary underscored that the proposal would greatly benefit both Palestinians and Israelis, allow a surge in humanitarian assistance into Gaza, enable the return of displaced persons, and permit international reconstruction efforts to begin,” the statement added.
During their discussion, Blinken and Bourita agreed on the importance of continued close coordination to advance peace and security in the region.
King Mohammed VI, as Chairman of the Al Quds Committee, has directed the deployment of a humanitarian food aid operation by land for the Palestinian populations of Gaza and the Holy City of Al Quds. Morocco is the first country to use this unprecedented overland route to deliver aid directly since the outbreak of hostilities in the Gaza Strip.
This significant humanitarian operation underscores King Mohammed VI's commitment to the Palestinian cause. Morocco also supports President Biden's proposals to promote a lasting ceasefire, ensure humanitarian aid access, protect civilians, return displaced persons, and rebuild destroyed areas.
The Moroccan Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed hope that all parties involved will adhere to this initiative and commit to implementing its various phases.
