Morocco has affirmed its commitment to combating all forms of gender discrimination, indicating that Moroccan women can achieve equality in all fields. This was stated during an international discussion on the sidelines of the 56th session of the Human Rights Council held at the United Nations headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland.
The kingdom representative explained during the discussion that Morocco is raising the bar regarding women's rights and granting them the status they deserve, firmly rejecting any rollback of the gains achieved by women and girls in recent years.
The discussion particularly focused on economic violence against women and girls worldwide. The Moroccan representative pointed out that the kingdom believes in justice and equality, and that the impact of this type of violence on women and girls is profound and multifaceted. It affects not only their financial security but also their mental, physical, and emotional health, leading to a cycle of poverty and social exclusion, and increasing their vulnerability to other forms of violence.
Additionally, in Morocco's speech at the United Nations, it was stated that the country is adopting a "national policy to combat violence against women and girls by 2030" to support various legal reforms aimed at enhancing the protection of women and fulfilling national and international commitments resulting from these reforms.
The Moroccan representative to the United Nations Human Rights Council revealed that the kingdom is implementing a new development model that places women's empowerment at the heart of its strategic choices, aiming to double their activity rate by 2035.
Morocco highlighted its achievements in this area within an international discussion that revealed the significant challenges still facing the status of women in various parts of the world, addressing the plight of women victims of wars in Palestine and Ukraine, and others under detention and forced violence in Afghanistan, Tindouf in southern Algeria, and Iran.
