Morocco Donates Complete Power Station to Niger to Enhance Energy Sovereignty

Morocco has provided Niger with a complete power station consisting of nine generators. This initiative aims to help Niger achieve sovereignty in electrical energy and comes amid a noticeable strengthening of relations between the two countries.

The handover of the nine generators from Morocco, as part of a grant ordered by King Mohammed VI and agreed upon by the two countries at the end of last year, was recently presided over by Nigerien Energy Minister Amadou Haoua, accompanied by Moroccan Ambassador to Niger Allal El Achab.

According to Nigerien reports, the grant involves supplying the "Nigelec Niamey 2" station, part of the national company for electricity generation and transmission in Niger, with nine generators with a capacity of 22.5 megawatts, provided free of charge by Morocco to enhance the energy production capabilities of the Sahel country.

The Nigerien Energy Minister expressed her gratitude to the Moroccan authorities, especially King Mohammed VI, for this initiative. She noted that the energy sector requires substantial resources and significant investments to meet the needs of the population and the national economy, describing the initiative as "a perfect example of bilateral partnership." She added that these installations represent "the first steps towards achieving energy sovereignty."

The Moroccan Ambassador to Niger revealed that the project began during the visit of Former Niger's Prime Minister, Ouhoumoudou Mahamadou, to Morocco last December, where King Mohammed VI gave instructions to support Niger in the field of electrical energy.

El Achab stated that the grant consists of nine electrical generator sets delivered to the Nigerien government, forming a complete site that will begin producing electricity by the end of this month. The Moroccan diplomat added that this project is not the first result of the partnership between Morocco and Niger, noting that "there are other projects underway, reaffirming the partnership and friendship between the two countries."
