Guinea-Bissau Reiterates Constant Support for Morocco's Territorial Integrity and Sovereignty over its Sahara

The Bissau-Guinean Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Communities, Carlos Pinto Pereira, reiterated on Tuesday in Laayoune his country's constant position in favor of Morocco's territorial integrity and sovereignty over its entire territory, including the Sahara region.

Speaking at a press briefing held after talks with Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates, Nasser Bourita, Pereira reaffirmed Guinea Bissau's support for the Moroccan Autonomy Initiative, which he sees as the only credible and realistic solution to this regional dispute.

He also praised the efforts of the United Nations as the exclusive framework for achieving a realistic, practical and lasting solution to the Sahara dispute.

Recalling the opening by the Republic of Guinea-Bissau of a Consulate General in Dakhla in October 2020, Pereira also reaffirmed that his country's support was in line with the dynamic of international recognition of the Kingdom of Morocco's territorial integrity, providing tangible proof of the solidity of the strategic partnership linking the two brotherly countries at the highest level.

He also emphasized the role of Morocco's southern provinces as an important African hub, and called for the experience of these provinces to become the basis for a development policy for the whole of Africa.

The two ministers took the opportunity to reiterate their unwavering commitment to the principles of international law and legality, and to respect for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of States.
