Morocco Announces Emergency Measures to Remedy Heat Wave Effects

The Moroccan Ministry of Health and Social Protection announced, on Thursday, a battery of emergency measures to remedy the health effects of the heat wave currently affecting the Kingdom, following warning bulletins issued by the General Directorate of Meteorology on rising temperatures in certain regions.

In a statement, the Ministry indicated that it had set up duty hours at health facilities in regions affected by the rising temperatures, in addition to mobilizing health professionals, namely doctors, nurses and ambulance drivers, as well as providing medicines and hospital equipment to guarantee the necessary care.

The Ministry also urges citizens to take the necessary precautions to guard against the health risks associated with rising temperatures, especially for the most vulnerable categories, including children, pregnant women, the elderly and those suffering from chronic illnesses.

The Ministry advises regular and sufficient hydration, while avoiding going outdoors between 11 a.m. and 8 p.m., a time of day marked by excessively high temperatures.

The statement also calls on citizens to avoid strenuous physical activity, keep their homes cool by closing windows during the day and opening them in the evening, and to consult a doctor if they have any health problems or are undergoing regular treatment.
