Arab League: Arab Economic & Social Council Adopts Draft Resolutions Submitted by Morocco

The 114th Arab Economic and Social Council at ministerial level adopted, on Thursday in Cairo, draft resolutions submitted by the Kingdom of Morocco.

During the meeting, where Morocco was represented by a delegation headed by the Kingdom's Ambassador to Egypt and Permanent Representative to the Arab League Mohamed Ait Ouali, the Council adopted a draft resolution on the Arab strategy for lifelong learning.

In this respect, the Council entrusted the General Secretariat of the Arab League with coordinating with Morocco, as the draft resolution proponent, the Arab League Educational, Cultural and Scientific Organization (ALECSO), the Arab Labor Organization (ALO), the Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport (AASTMT) and the Association of Arab Universities (AARU), to prepare the draft Arab strategy for lifelong learning to be communicated to member states, in order to present it to the Economic and Social Council at its next session.

The Council also adopted a draft resolution on the Kingdom's experience in the postal sector, and decided to express its gratitude to Morocco for the action plan and its experience with the Universal Postal Union's integrated postal development index in 2023. In this context, the General Secretariat of the Arab League called for the generalization of this experience in Arab countries.

It also urged Arab countries to benefit from training courses hosted by Barid Al Maghrib in coordination with the Universal Postal Union in the fields of postal security, international intellectual property offences and dangerous goods transported by mail.

The final draft resolution adopted by the Council concerns the role of social support in achieving equity and equal opportunities in learning. In this context, the Council resolved to forward the proposal to the Council of Arab Ministers of Social Affairs for examination and decision-making, and to introduce the topic to the Economic and Social Council at its next session.

The agenda for this session includes follow-up on the implementation of the previous session's decisions, activities of the General Secretariat between the 113th and 114th sessions of the Council, the economic and social case of the Arab League Council at the forthcoming Summit in Iraq and several development projects such as the Greater Arab Free Trade Area (GAFTA) and the Arab Customs Union.
