Director-General of Morocco’s National Railways Office (ONCF), Mohamed Rabie Khlie, said on Monday in Rabat, that, following the successful experience of the high-speed train, Morocco has embarked on a major plan to develop the rail network for the period 2024-2030, in cooperation with French companies.
In a statement to the press following the signing ceremony of several agreements between the Kingdom of Morocco and the French Republic, chaired by King Mohammed VI and President Emmanuel Macron, Khlie stressed that Morocco's experience with high-speed rail “has achieved very satisfactory results,” noting that several projects in this field are planned “before the 2030 World Cup.”
In this respect, Khlie stressed that the railway sector is of paramount importance, in line with the enlightened vision of King Mohammed VI.
He added that, as part of the new projects, the planned high-speed line between Kénitra and Marrakech will be extended over a length of 430 km, stressing that there are numerous invitations to tender, including those relating to high-speed trains, Alstom having won of them after submitting the best bid in terms of cost and product quality.
The calls to tender also concerned support for ONCF, won by a consortium made up of a Moroccan and two French design offices, and another for the acquisition of rail switches, won by another French company, he said.
