Paraguay’s Lower House Reiterates Support for Morocco’s Sovereignty Over its Sahara

Paraguay’s Lower House has passed a new resolution reiterating its unwavering support for Morocco’s sovereignty over its Southern Provinces.

In this resolution, adopted last week, Paraguayan deputies reiterate their endorsement of Morocco’s Autonomy Initiative as the foundation for a peaceful, fair resolution to the regional dispute, a resolution compliant with international legality.

In addition, the Chamber of Deputies urged the Paraguayan government to adopt this position formally by issuing official statements and called for explicit support for the Moroccan Initiative in international fora.

Since the establishment of Morocco’s embassy in Asunción in November 2016, the Chamber of Deputies has adopted seven resolutions, five of which explicitly support for Morocco’s territorial integrity and sovereignty over the Sahara.

Through this resolution, the Chamber of Deputies joins the international momentum spearheaded by His Majesty King Mohammed VI, in support of the Autonomy Plan and Morocco’s sovereignty over its Sahara.

The latest resolution follows a similar move by the Paraguayan Senate on November 13, which endorsed "the Autonomy Initiative proposed by Morocco as a basis for achieving a peaceful, fair, lasting, and mutually acceptable solution, in full respect of the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Kingdom of Morocco."

Thus, both chambers of the Paraguayan National Congress agree, on one hand, to express unequivocal support for Morocco's Autonomy Initiative as the sole basis for any solution to this regional dispute, within the framework of Morocco's national sovereignty and territorial integrity, and, on the other hand, to urge their government to adopt this same position through official statements and to provide explicit support for it in international fora.
