Morocco owns 3 types of ‘highly advanced’ armed drones

Morocco has recently succeeded to own armed drones that have been considered ‘highly advanced’ by several media outlets, and it has used them for the first time in an attack that targeted a commander in the Polisario separatist front and killed him, according to an official announcement by Polisario news agency and Algerian media.

The Spanish news website, El Espanol, has reported that Morocco owns 3 types of military drones, and it acquired them through armament deals with Israel the United States.

According to the same source, Morocco received last year 3 Israeli ‘Heron’ drones in a deal valued at 48 million dollars, adding that Morocco also purchased from Israel 4 ‘Hermes 900’ drones and received it throughout this year.

The third type of armed drone that Morocco has is the American ‘Predator’ after signing a 1 billion deal to acquire 4 units, El Espanol pointed out.

However, Morocco would add forth type of armed drone to its air military arsenal, after ordering 13 Turkish armed drones from the Baykar company, which are named “Bayraktar TB2” in a deal valued at 65 million dollars, according to Africa Intelligence news website.

Morocco likely wants to strengthen its air forces in order to defend its borders, especially in the Sahara region against the Polisario who conduct several attacks on the Moroccan army.
