Director of UNAIDS Morocco, Dr. Kamal Alami, hailed, Wednesday in Rabat, the role of Morocco which has stood out in the region of North Africa and the Middle East (MENA), in the fight against the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV).
"Morocco stands out in the MENA region. It is on the right path to achieve the goals defined at the international level" to end the epidemic of AIDS by 2030, he said in an interview with MAP, on the occasion of the World AIDS Day, celebrated on December 1 of each year.
"Morocco has managed to reduce new infections and deaths by about 50% between 2010 and 2020. It is therefore among the countries that are making good progress in the response to HIV," said the UN official, noting that this has been achieved "through many years of political commitment, a very active partnership between the government, the Ministry of Health and civil society organizations, and through a human rights-based approach, with the involvement of the National Human Rights Council”.
Alami also emphasized that Morocco was among the countries "that responded well to HIV during the COVID-19 period, including continuing to promote and provide HIV services in collaboration with civil society organizations”.
