Morocco's candidacy to host the first regional office for Africa of the World Tourism Organization (WTO), the second in the world, was approved during the 24th session of the General Assembly of the Organization, according to the Moroccan delegation participating in this global meeting.
The Moroccan bid was approved amidst stiff competition from four other African countries.
The choice of the city of Marrakech to host the first regional office for Africa enshrines the Kingdom's continental leadership in tourism development.
The mission of the UNWTO continental office will include the promotion of investment and tourism innovation by building on a model of South-South cooperation in line with the Royal Vision for Joint African Action.
During this General Assembly, held from Nov. 30 to Dec. 03 in Madrid, Morocco was elected as a member of the 2021-2025 WTO Executive Council.
