African journalists establish an 'initiative' to fight violent extremism

A number of journalists from the Maghreb and Sahel countries decided to establish the "Sahel and Maghreb Journalists' Initiative to Prevent Violent Extremism".

The establishment of this initiative came as a result of consultations held by journalists in the capital of Ivory Coast, Abidjan, during their participation in a training program supervised by the American NGO "Equal Access International" on "media and extremism".

The objectives of the "Sahel and Maghreb Journalists' Initiative to Prevent Violent Extremism" include 3 main axes:

1- Networking, cooperation, and information exchange between journalists.

2- Training and continuous training of members to raise their capabilities in this field with the aim of supervising the training of journalists in the region.

3- Encouraging and supporting the production of media content to reduce violent extremist discourse, through partnerships with interested donors.
