During the General Debate at the 57th Session of the Human Rights Council, the African Network for Development, Governance, and Human Rights (RADHAG), through the voice of Mahmud Kenti BUEH, raised strong concerns about longstanding human rights abuses occurring in the Tindouf camps under the control of the Polisario armed group, with the explicit complicity of the Algerian state.
BUEH expressed deep concern over the recruitment of child soldiers, forcibly taken from their families, brainwashed, and used for military purposes, thus stripping them of their right to a protected and fulfilling childhood. He highlighted another alarming issue: the trafficking of children disguised as "vacation programs" in Europe.
According to BUEH, these programs, far from offering respite to the children, are a form of disguised exploitation and trafficking, in direct violation of international child protection standards.
In his intervention, BUEH called for the immediate action of the Human Rights Council to ensure the protection of fundamental rights within the Tindouf camps. He urged the international community to take concrete measures to end the impunity of those responsible for these violations and to allow independent observers access to investigate the human rights situation in the region. The ultimate goal, he emphasized, is to free populations held under the domination of the Polisario.
