The leader of the Movement for the Autonomy of Kabylia (MAK) said that the recent parliamentary elections in Algeria proved that President Abdelmadjid Tebboune does not have any popular support, and that he was installed by the Algerian generals to overcome the crisis of the regime's succession, no less or more.
In an interview with Assahifa Arabic, which will be published later, Mhenni added that the voter turnout in the parliamentary elections, which was very weak, showed that Algerian citizens do not trust their rulers. The rate of participation in the elections determines the level of credibility between the people and the rulers.
Mhenni noted that the Algerian president's statement, in which he underestimated the importance of citizens' weak participation in parliamentary elections, is a statement to save face and mitigate setbacks.
The leader of the Kabylie region indicated that the turnout in the elections in the Kabylie region was zero percent, and this is evidence of the Kabyle population's rejection of the Algerian regime, and its aspiration for independence and self-rule.
Regarding whether Kabyle wants independence from Algeria, Mhenni said, "Our ambitions for independence have become stronger than ever."
Mhenni said that it should be known that at all times, Kabylia was independent and that its annexation to French Algeria was never recorded or accepted by a Kabyle body or institution, in 1857 or in 1871, adding that Kabylia which has an area of 50,000 km2 and a population of 12 million inhabitants deserve to sit in the United Nations.
