Political transition in Libya: Mohammad Menfi elected Head of Presidential Council, Dbeibah PM

Mohammad Younes Menfi was elected on Friday President of the Presidential Council, by the Libyan Political Dialogue Forum, which met near Geneva under the auspices of the UN to designate the unified executive power which will have to lead the country until elections are held next December.

His fellow candidate, Abdul Hamid Mohammed Dbeibah, was elected by the 74 members of the Forum to the position of Prime Minister, according to the results published live on UN TV. The same victorious list includes Mossa Al-Koni and Abdullah Hussein Al-Lafi who will serve as Vice-Presidents of the Presidential Council. Menfi and Dbeibah will lead the unified executive power which will have the mission of "reuniting state institutions and ensuring security" until the elections scheduled in December.

The Friday vote took place in the format of lists, after no candidate in the first round, held last Tuesday, obtained the required threshold, namely 75% of the votes, on the basis of the mechanism of the electoral colleges of three regions, Tripolitania (west), Cyrenaica (east) and Fezzan (west).
