Industrial production down in EU, Eurozone in June

Industrial production fell 1.2% on a yearly basis both in the euro area and the EU, the bloc's statistics office revealed on Wednesday.

On a monthly basis, production was up 0.5% in the euro area and 0.4% in the EU, Eurostat added.

In the eurozone, production of energy fell in June by 7.8%, intermediate goods by 6.3%, and durable consumer goods by 5.2% year-on-year, while production of non-durable consumer goods climbed by 0.2% and capital goods by 4.4%.

In the EU, production of energy plunged 8.9%, intermediate goods by 6.6%, and durable consumer goods by 6.5%, while production of non-durable consumer goods rose by 2.1% and capital goods by 4.8%.

Among member countries, Estonia suffered the largest annual decrease of 12.7%, followed by Bulgaria with a decline of 9.3% and Belgium with 7.6%. The greatest increases were posted by Denmark at 12.3%, Ireland at 8.3%, and Slovakia at 3.6%.
