Renault Group Launches Production of Morocco's First Hybrid Car

The Renault Group in Morocco has officially commenced the production of the country's first hybrid car under the "Dacia Jogger" brand. The production process kicked off yesterday, Thursday, aligning with Renault's goal announced in March of last year to begin manufacturing the first hybrid car at the Tangier plant in 2024.

On the sidelines of the launch of this type of car at the Dacia plant in Tangier, Minister of Industry and Trade, Ryad Mezzour, stated, "Today is significant for the automotive industry in Morocco, as it marks the first time in the kingdom's history that we are producing a hybrid car."

Mezzour added that Morocco will "produce 200 units of the Dacia Jogger at the plant", noting that "it has been enhanced to be larger in size, belonging to the C-segment category. Secondly, this is the first hybrid car to be produced in Morocco, and thirdly, it is affordable for both European and Moroccan families."

The Minister of Economy also highlighted that "the Dacia Jogger model has seen high demand, having been manufactured at a European plant since 2022, with approximately 100,000 units sold last year. This promising market will now be supplied from Morocco."

It's worth mentioning that the Renault Group announced in March 2023 its intention to start producing a hybrid car under the "Dacia" brand from the second quarter of 2024 at its plant in the industrial zone of Tangier, northern Morocco.

During a press conference attended by Moroccan Minister of Industry and Trade, Ryad Mezzour, Renault revealed that the first hybrid car of the "Dacia" brand will be named "Jogger," a family car with seven seats. The launch of its production aims to strengthen the automotive ecosystem in Morocco.

Renault officials also stated that the initial goal at the start of production is to reach an annual production ceiling of 120,000 units.

Previously, Minister of Industry and Trade, Ryad Mezzour, mentioned that Morocco has become a leader in the automotive industry on the continental level and a global base for car manufacturing, given the advanced technologies and highly skilled Moroccan capabilities.
