Tourism most sector hit by pandemic in Morocco in 2020

Like all countries in the world, Morocco suffered from the consequences of the pandemic during 2020 at all levels. However, the tourism sector is still considered the most economic sector in the country hit by the Coronavirus.

According to official data issued by the Ministry of Tourism, Morocco lost, in 2020, more than 43 billion dirhams as revenues of Tourism comparing to 2019, which means that the revenues dropped 53.8 percent.

In 2019, Morocco had received 13 million people worldwide, ranking the Kingdome the top number one touristic destination in Africa.

In 2020 with the emerge of Coronavirus, Morocco decided to close its borders in front of tourists, the decision which was behind a massive crisis in the sector of tourism, whether in Morocco or the in the world.

Morocco seeks the recovery in all economic sectors by the beginning of 2021; it has launched a national campaign against COVID-19, hoping to get out soon from the pandemic's negative effects, especially in the sector of Tourism.

Tourism is an essential sector in Morocco because of its ability to create jobs, and Its contribution to the national GDP exceeds 6 percent.

Although the government is making all the efforts to overcome the pandemic's consequences, the tourism sector still depends on the global recovery more than anything else.
