The Dacia Sandero, manufactured in Morocco, has claimed the top spot as the best-selling car in Spain during 2024 and early 2025, surpassing several competing brands, including cars produced in Spain. This success is attributed to its affordable price, according to a report by the specialized website Diario Motor.
Despite the gradual shift in the Spanish market towards importing used cars due to economic conditions, a significant segment of Spanish consumers still prefers to buy new cars—provided they are practical and economical, the report noted.
This trend has reinforced the dominance of the Dacia Sandero in Spain’s car market. The report highlighted that the vehicle is produced in two Moroccan factories—Tangier and Casablanca—which have contributed to its expansion, despite its primary manufacturing base being in Romania.
According to figures revealed by Diario Motor, more than 5,100 units of the Dacia Sandero have been sold, making it the best-selling car in both Spain and Europe in 2025. With a starting price of less than €14,000, it remains the preferred choice for those seeking a new car at the lowest possible cost.
The report further emphasized that the Sandero combines simplicity and reliability, offering a spacious interior with a storage capacity of 328 liters. Additionally, it boasts low fuel consumption, with some models consuming between 3.6 and 4.0 liters per 100 kilometers, making it particularly attractive to a wide range of consumers.
Despite Dacia’s Romanian origins, the report underlined that its real expansion has been driven by its Moroccan factories, which have become a cornerstone of its production strategy. Thanks to their proximity to Europe and lower operational costs, these factories have given the brand a strong competitive edge in European markets.
This success reflects a shift in Dacia’s branding strategy; the company is no longer just seen as a manufacturer of the "cheapest cars" but now offers vehicles with high added value in terms of performance and technology—while maintaining affordability.
Analysts confirm that Dacia, and by extension Moroccan manufacturing, is capitalizing on rising global car prices to strengthen its position as a smart choice that balances economy and reliability. This strategy has helped the Sandero cement its place as one of the most attractive options for Spanish buyers.
It is worth noting that Dacia-branded cars are also among the best-selling vehicles in Morocco for the same reasons as in Spain—affordability and the ability to offer multiple features at a lower cost.
