Argentine Magazine Hails Morocco as 'Leading World Tourism Destination'

Morocco is emerging as “a leading world tourism destination” after breaking the record for foreign visitors in the first seven months of 2024, according to Argentine trade magazine El Diario de Viaje.

In an article published on Thursday, the travel magazine writes that the Kingdom welcomed ten million foreign tourists in seven months, posting growth of 15% compared to the same period last year. This figure, the article points out, positions the Kingdom as “one of the most popular and unmissable destinations in North Africa.”

“On the strength of these figures, Morocco is continuing to work to maintain this positive trend [...]. The government and private-sector players are developing new strategies to broaden the tourism offer, improve the quality of services, and attract even more visitors from various parts of the world,” adds the magazine.

In July alone, notes the magazine, the latest bulletin from the Directorate of Financial Studies and Forecasts, attached to the Ministry of Economy and Finance, reported 2.6 million tourists welcomed, representing a 20% increase on July 2023.

El Diario de Viaje, an Argentine magazine also distributed in Uruguay, writes that these data "reinforce the success of the country's tourism strategy, which continues to recover and grow after the pandemic." The Argentine trade magazine also notes that this year's increase in tourist arrivals adds up to 14.5 million visitors by 2023, pointing out that “for this year, Morocco was counting on an additional million tourists, a target that seems to be on the way to being achieved thanks to tourism promotion policies and infrastructure improvements.”

In addition to the increase in the number of visitors, the report by the Ministry of Economy and Finance reveals that the number of overnight stays in Morocco's classified tourist accommodation establishments rose by 8.4% up to the end of June 2024, reaching 12.7 million overnight stays. This trend reflects the growing appeal of Morocco to tourists, drawn by its rich cultural and natural offering.
