Members of the Royal Armed Forces in charge of coastal surveillance intercepted, on Wednesday, 186 km south of Dakhla, a grounded pirogue with 54 candidates for irregular migration on board.
The would-be migrants, of sub-Saharan and Asian origin, had set sail from the Mauritanian coast on their way to the Canary Islands, the General Staff of the Royal Armed Forces said in a statement.
It added that those rescued received the necessary care, before being handed over to the Royal Gendarmerie for the usual administrative procedures.
