Female Literacy Rate in Morocco to Reach 53.9% in 2019

Female literacy rate in Morocco rose to 53.9% in 2019 from 39.6% in 2004, said the High Commission for Planning (HCP) in its report entitled "Moroccan women in figures: 20 years of progress".

This rate reached 74.6% among men in 2019 against 65.6% in 2004, while the overall literacy rate was 64.1% in 2019 against 52.3% in 2004, said the HCP in its report published on the occasion of the celebration of Women National Day (October 10).

In terms of access to education, the report stated that 90.5% of girls aged 15-17 will be enrolled in school in 2020 in urban areas and 39.2% in rural areas, compared with 56.3% and 6.1% respectively in the 2000s.

On the other hand, 85.7% of boys in the same age group are enrolled in urban areas and 50.5% in rural areas, compared with 70.3% and 14.7% respectively in 2000, according to the report, whose data were provided by the ministerial department in charge.

In the various fields of higher education, the HCP reported that the rate of feminization reached 52.7% in 2019 against 42.9% in 2000, a percentage carried in particular by dentistry which has a feminization rate of more than 73%.
