King Mohammed VI places the Palestinian cause among the constants of the Kingdom’s foreign policy, Head of Government, Aziz Akhannouch, said on Monday in Riyadh, during the Joint Arab-Islamic Extraordinary Summit.
Akhannouch, who is representing the King to this Summit, recalled that the Sovereign had dedicated considerable space to the Palestinian issue in His speech on the Throne Day 25th anniversary, reaffirming His commitment to “continue to back constructive initiatives aimed at finding practical solutions, achieving a tangible and permanent ceasefire, and addressing the humanitarian situation.”
The Sovereign had stated that "the deteriorating conditions in the region require going beyond the logic of crisis management and seeking, instead, a final solution to this conflict,” noting that “if putting an end to the war in Gaza is an urgent priority, then this must be achieved concurrently with opening up political prospects conducive to a just and lasting peace in the region.”
The Head of Government recalled that the King had said that “opting for negotiations to revive the peace process between the Palestinian and Israeli sides requires cutting off the path for extremists - from whatever side they may come,” noting that “achieving complete security and stability in the region can be realized only within the framework of the two-state solution, with Gaza an integral part of the territory of the independent Palestinian state, and East Jerusalem its capital.”
Based on His political and humanitarian duties as Chairman of the Al-Quds Committee, the Sovereign "had given His enlightened instructions to the Bayt Mal Al-Quds Asharif Agency, the operational arm of the Al-Quds Committee, to deliver urgent humanitarian and medical aid to our Palestinian brothers in the Gaza Strip, the West Bank and Al-Quds Asharif. This aid was sent via an unprecedented land route,” he added.
In this regard, Akhannouch stressed that true peace in the Middle East must guarantee Palestinians their legitimate rights, within the framework of the two-state solution. He added that Morocco condemns the decision to end UNRWA's activities, which it considers a direct threat to the existence of the Palestinian people.
Akhannouch considered that Israel's broadening of the spiral of military violence in Lebanon is “clear proof that the whole region is heading towards a challenging phase with unpredictable consequences”. “This prompts us to question the real reasons behind this escalation and the beneficiary of this tragic situation, bearing in mind that efforts are still being made at many levels to end the war that has been going on in Gaza for over a year”, he observed.
The Kingdom, Akhannouch said, joins the rest of Arab and Islamic countries in expressing solidarity with Lebanon to preserve its sovereignty over all its territories and support its constitutional institutions, so as to enshrine national unity and uphold the country's safety and stability.
The Head of Government is accompanied at this Summit, held at the invitation of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, by Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates Nasser Bourita.
