Italian Diplomat Calls Morocco ‘Genuine Hub’ Between Europe & Africa

Morocco has become a genuine hub and focal point between Europe and Africa under the leadership of King Mohammed VI, said Italy’s ambassador in Morocco, Armando Barucco.

“Morocco is a genuine hub and a focal point between Europe and Africa. It strives to develop infrastructure and stability for Sahel countries,” the Italian diplomat said in a remote interview with the Italpress agency's TV channel.

The Kingdom, he said, offers great investment opportunities in infrastructure and structuring projects.

Barucco considers that Morocco is an undeniable bridge for Italian companies towards Africa in various fields such as economy, trade and industry.

He added that the Kingdom is a “fundamental” country in terms of security collaboration and partnership.

After highlighting the strength and scope of bilateral cooperation in various sectors, notably economic and commercial, which has seen an “extraordinary” rebound particularly in the post-Covid period, the Italian ambassador called on his country's investors to take advantage of the enormous opportunities offered by Morocco, which will co-host the 2030 World Cup with Spain and Portugal.

He also emphasized that Rabat is a privileged partner for Rome in renewables and energy transition, as part of the Mattei plan, highlighting the Kingdom's role as a regional leader, supporting African countries through its triangular program in their energy transition and promoting regional integration.

The diplomat reviewed the various areas of cooperation between the two countries, citing the automotive industry, health, training, waste treatment, railroads, seawater desalination, scientific research, and the creation and development of joint projects.

Barucco also praised the growth and development of Morocco, “a country that is modernizing and investing in all areas, from infrastructure to communications technologies, renewable energies and new green energies, among others,” pointing out that the Kingdom will soon be home to an office of “La Cassa Depositi e Prestiti,” making it one of only a handful of countries to be represented by this Italian public institution, which finances projects in a variety of sectors.
