Joint Arab Islamic Extraordinary Summit Kicks Off in Riyadh with Morocco's Participation

The joint Arab and Islamic Extraordinary Summit began in Riyadh on Monday, with the participation of member Arab and Islamic countries, including Morocco. 

King Mohammed VI is represented by the Head of Government Aziz Akhannouch at this summit held at the invitation of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The latter is accompanied by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates, Nasser Bourita. 

The Moroccan delegation namely involves Morocco's Ambassador to Egypt and Permanent Representative to the League of Arab States, Mohamed Ait Ouali, the Kingdom's Ambassador to Saudi Arabia and Permanent Representative to the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Mustapha Mansouri, as well as senior diplomats from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Moroccan Expatriates. 

Saudi Arabia called for the convening of this summit to review the developments in the region, against the backdrop of the ongoing Israeli war against Gaza and Lebanon, and its dangerous repercussions on regional security and stability, as well as to coordinate the positions of the member states.

This extraordinary summit was opened by HRH Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia, on behalf of he Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud.

In his speech, the Saudi Crown Prince called for "unifying the positions of member states and exerting pressure on the international community to act in order to stop the ongoing aggression and find lasting solutions that ensure stability and peace in the region."

According to an official Saudi source, the summit builds on the Arab-Islamic summit held in Riyadh on November 11, 2023, reflecting the awareness among the leaders of Arab and Islamic countries of the importance of unifying efforts and adopting a common stance on the grave and unprecedented developments in Gaza and other Palestinian territories.
