Macron: For France, the Present and Future of the Sahara are Under Moroccan Sovereignty

French President Emmanuel Macron stated today, Tuesday, before the Moroccan parliament that, for France, the present and future of the Sahara fall under Moroccan sovereignty, reaffirming France's support for Morocco's stance on this regional issue.

Macron emphasized that autonomy under Moroccan sovereignty is the most appropriate framework for resolving the issue, noting that France’s position is not antagonistic to any party but rather aims to support regional stability. He added that France will stand by Morocco in international forums.

Macron also highlighted that France has maintained its loyal friendship with Morocco since its independence, recalling that around 10 million Moroccans contributed to France's reconstruction after the war, reflecting the deep historical ties between the two nations.

The French president pointed to Morocco’s significant role in Africa, describing the partnership between the two countries as "exceptional" and expressing a strong ambition to develop it across various fields beyond the Mediterranean. France intends to encourage French investments in Morocco.

Macron affirmed that his country seeks to strengthen cultural ties between France and Morocco, adding that relations between them will continue to progress uninterrupted. He called for "writing a new chapter" to address future challenges together.

Macron further highlighted cooperation on several bilateral issues and challenges, including migration, stressing the need for streamlined consular cooperation to facilitate migrant transfers.

The French president also addressed the situation in the Middle East, where both he and King Mohammed VI called for an immediate halt to attacks in Lebanon and Gaza, stressing the importance of seeking solutions to regional crises through collaboration and dialogue.
