Malta: Morocco Prioritizes Dialogue, Cooperation in Euro-Mediterranean Ties - Says Ambassador

Morocco has consistently sought to foster mutual trust by prioritizing dialogue, negotiation, and cooperation in pursuit of realistic and lasting solutions in its Euro-Mediterranean ties, Ambassador Azzeddine Farhane, Permanent Representative of Morocco to the International Organizations in Vienna, said on Friday.

At the 31st Ministerial Council of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) in Ta'Qal, Farhane emphasized that Morocco firmly believes this partnership should serve as a platform for action, one that generates innovative ideas to enhance dialogue, strengthen mutual trust, boost cooperation, and ultimately solidify peace across the Euro-Mediterranean region.

In the face of persistent political tensions and uncertainties that disrupt the equilibrium in today's world, particularly in the Mediterranean, the diplomat stressed the need to take initiatives and agree on concrete, bold actions to preserve the Mediterranean partnership, an “indispensable and highly strategic element in the preservation of regional and international peace and security."

He added that Morocco has consistently reiterated the need to include all stakeholders in resolving regional disputes through dialogue and negotiation, in a spirit of realism and compromise, in order to face up to new, complex common challenges and emerging threats of separatism, terrorism, transnational crime, human trafficking and climate change.

The diplomat highlighted Morocco's adherence to the principles of the Helsinki Final Act, adopted in 1975, and its long-standing commitment to strengthening the Mediterranean partnership with the OSCE. These factors, he emphasized, "dictate our duty to emphasize the geostrategic dimension of the Mediterranean, and encourage contributions to international efforts to maintain peace and security, while respecting the territorial integrity and sovereignty of States."

Morocco, while reaffirming its devotion to the values of democracy, freedom of expression, the promotion of human rights and political emancipation espoused by the OSCE, has always had a clear vision of making the Mare Nostrum a space for unity, cohesion, togetherness and peace, Farhane noted.
