Morocco and U.S. Strengthen Military Cooperation, Highlight African Lion Exercise as Key Partnership

Lieutenant General Mohammed Berrid, Inspector General of the Royal Armed Forces and Commander of the South Zone, and the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff of the United States of America, General Charles Brown, hailed the momentum of military cooperation between the Moroccan and US armies in various fields.

“At the request of the U.S. Joint Chiefs of Staff, Lieutenant General Mohammed Berrid, Inspector General of the Royal Armed Forces and Commander of the South Zone, had a phone call with the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff of the United States of America, General Charles Brown,” according to a statement from the FAR General Staff.

During the meeting, the two military leaders stressed that the African Lion exercise, which has been held in the Kingdom of Morocco since 2004, is the best illustration of the strength and depth of the Moroccan-US strategic partnership, the same source added.

Discussions also focused on issues of common interest, notably regional security and ways of pooling efforts to tackle all the challenges and threats currently facing the region.
