Morocco-EU Alliance Seen as Increasingly Vital Amid Current Geopolitical Landscape, Says Josep Borrell

The partnership between Morocco and the European Union is "more crucial than ever in the current geopolitical context", said EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Josep Borell.

The strengthening of this strategic partnership was the focus of a meeting on Wednesday between Borrell and Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates, Nasser Bourita.

"We discussed how to give new impetus to the EU-Morocco partnership, which is more crucial than ever in the current geopolitical context," said the EU senior official on his X account on Thursday.

Bourita and Borrell also discussed several bilateral and regional issue.

A benchmark in the EU's neighborhood policy, Rabat and Brussels are linked by a strategic partnership built on a solid foundation of values and vision.

Morocco and the EU had launched on June 27, 2019 in Brussels the "Euro-Moroccan Partnership for Shared Prosperity", a statutory framework governing bilateral relations centered around four structuring areas. These are; an area of convergence of values, an area of economic convergence and social cohesion, an area of shared knowledge, and an area of political concertation and increased cooperation on security matters, as well as two fundamental horizontal areas, which will also be the subject of specific operational actions: cooperation on the environment and the fight against climate change, and cooperation on mobility and migration, to be mutually strengthened.
