Morocco Leads the Way to Digital Renaissance

Morocco is now leading the way to a digital renaissance, exploiting its strategic geographical position and advances in connectivity and cybersecurity, Hassan Azdimousa, a lecturer and researcher at the University Ibn Tofail of Kenitra (UIT) and digital expert, said on Friday in Marrakech.

"By promoting the emergence of new technologies adapted to the local challenges of African countries, and by establishing strategic partnerships, Morocco can develop and lead technological projects on a continental scale," noted Azdimousa, in an interview with MAP, on the sidelines of the second edition of Gitex Africa 2024.

The digital expert also highlighted the role of artificial intelligence (AI)-led innovations in the digital transformation of businesses in Africa, providing innovative solutions tailored to local ecosystems and needs, thus improving the operational efficiency of companies.

In this regard, he cited challenges to be overcome, such as improving mobile coverage as well as investing in training and developing AI skills.

In terms of cybersecurity, Azdimousa stressed the importance of collaboration between African companies to share information on cyber threats and best practices.

To this end, he recommended the implementation of AI and machine learning-based security solutions to ensure proactive threat detection and automated responses, enabling attacks to be contained and neutralized rapidly.

Focusing on the implications of the FIFA 2030 World Cup on Morocco's digital development, the expert noted that the event will lead to the strengthening and modernization of digital infrastructures, as well as the development of smart cities and connected stadiums to effectively manage transport, security and public services.

With this in mind, he stressed the need to invest in advanced cybersecurity technologies to protect critical infrastructures.

GITEX Africa, one of the continent's most influential technology events, offers a major platform for discussing these trends and opportunities, bringing together experts from a variety of sectors to exchange views on digital transformation in Africa.
