Morocco's Office of Vocational Training and Promotion of Work (OFPPT) and the Libyan Ministry of Technical and Vocational Education inked, on Tuesday in Tamesna, a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to bolster bilateral cooperation in vocational training.
Signed by Loubna Tricha, OFPPT Director General, and Yekhlif Said Sefao Amhimid, the Libyan Minister of Technical and Vocational Education, the MoU outlines the overarching framework for collaboration in vocational training, joint project implementation and expertise sharing. The signing ceremony, attended by Libyan Ambassador to the Kingdom, Ibrahim Ataweel, and Director of IsDB regional office in Rabat, Waleed Addas, lays the foundation of this partnership.
This agreement defines OFPPT's role in conducting audit of Libya's vocational training system to craft a joint action plan focused on enhancing training methodologies, uplifting trainers and reinforcing technical competencies in priority sectors.
OFPPT will also host 20 young Libyan trainees for initial training across its institutions starting the 2024-2025 academic year, with specific levels and specialties outlined in the memorandum.
Tricha expressed enthusiasm for the mutually beneficial collaboration, reaffirming the shared commitment to bolstering ties between OFPPT and the Libyan Ministry of Technical and Vocational Education.
The Libyan Minister underscored the meeting's importance in fostering exchanges and tapping into Moroccan expertise in vocational training. He commended Morocco's leadership in this field and called for Arab nations to federate efforts in addressing global challenges in vocational training, technical education, modern technologies and digital transformation.
In December 2022, OFPPT, in conjunction with the IsDB, hosted a Libyan delegation as part of its strategic partnership in vocational training development in Africa. Thirty Libyan trainees benefited from OFPPT's expertise between 2006 and 2019.
Following the MoU's signing, the Libyan delegation toured the City of Trades and Skills in Tamesna, inaugurated by King Mohammed VI on 30 May 2023. This facility is a cornerstone of the vocational training development roadmap under the City of Trades and Skills program.
