Morocco tops most exporters of vegetables, fruits to Russia

Morocco is the most exporter of vegetables and fruits to Russia in the last seven months of the current year, starting from the beginning of January until the end of July, according to the Russian Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Supervision, “Rosselkhoznadzor”.

The same source said in a report published on its official website that Russia imported in the mentioned period, 5.1 million tons of vegetables and fruits, adding that 45% of the total of this amount came from Morocco.

Other countries that exported agricultural products to Russia in the same period are Turkmenistan - 30%, Kazakhstan - 21%, Tajikistan - 16%, Uzbekistan - 14%, and China - 11%, the Rosselkhoznadzor pointed out.

The most Moroccan exports to Russia are clementines with more than 53.6 thousand tons, and over 33.7 thousand tons of tangerines, according to the same source.

The economic ties between Morocco and Russia have started to witness an increase in terms of exports and imports since the visit of Morocco’s king Mohammed VI to Moscow in 2016 and the signing of several agreements to strengthen trade relations.
