Morocco’s Actions on Migration Highly Commended in Addis Ababa

The migration actions undertaken by Morocco's King Mohammed VI as Leader of the African Union (AU) were highly commended during the second regional review of the Global Compact for Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration (CGM), on Wednesday in Addis Ababa.

"I commend the work accomplished by HM King Mohammed VI, leader of the African Union on the migration issue”, the AU Commissioner for Health, Humanitarian Affairs and Social Development, Minata Samate Cessouma, said at the opening of this major event alongside high-ranking UN and AU figures.

The AU official highlighted, among other things, the importance of the African Migration Observatory created at the proposition of King Mohammed VI, the African Union's leader on the migration issue.

The second Regional Review of GCM kicked off on Wednesday in Addis Ababa, with the participation of Morocco.

This important event, initiated by the UN Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA) and the International Organization for Migration (IOM) in collaboration with the African Union Commission, will be an opportunity for governments and stakeholders from 54 African countries to come together and assess the progress made in implementing the GCM since its adoption in 2018.
