On the occasion of Eid Al Fitr, Morocco's King Mohammed VI, granted pardon to 1,533 people, sentenced by the different Moroccan courts, the Justice Ministry said in a statement.
The detained beneficiaries of the royal pardon are 1,203 and are divided into:
- 20 detainees were pardoned from their remaining prison sentence.
- 1,178 inmates had their prison terms reduced.
- 5 inmates had their prison sentences commuted from life sentence to fixed prison term.
The beneficiaries of the royal pardon whom are on bail are 299 and are divided into:
- 54 prisoners benefited from pardon over their remaining prison terms.
- 16 inmates benefited from pardon over their imprisonment terms while their fines were maintained.
- 216 inmates benefited from pardon over their fines.
- 12 inmates benefited from pardon over their prison terms and fines.
- 1 person benefited from pardon over the fine and the remaining prison term.
On this glorious occasion, His Majesty the King, may God preserve Him, has kindly granted His Pardon to prisoners convicted in cases of extremism and terrorism, who have obtained the Royal Approval after officially expressing their attachment to the unwavering and sacred constants of the Nation and national institutions, revising their ideological orientations and rejecting extremism and terrorism.
They are 31 persons and are divided into:
- 13 inmates benefited from pardon over their remaining prison terms.
- 3 inmates benefited from pardon over their remaining prison terms and fines.
- 12 prisoners had their prison terms reduced.
- 1 inmate had his prison sentences commuted from death sentence to life sentence.
- 1 inmate had his prison sentences commuted from life sentence to a fixed-term sentence.
- 1 person benefited from pardon over the fine.
Royal pardon is customary in Morocco to mark national and religious holidays.
