Morocco's King Mohammed VI welcomed the "clear" position expressed by French President Emmanuel Macron regarding the issue of the Moroccan Sahara and invited him to visit the Moroccan capital, Rabat, according to a message sent by the King to the French President.
In his message, King Mohammed VI stated, "I received with great interest the important message you kindly sent me on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the Throne Day. I extend my heartfelt thanks for your warm wishes and your personal commitment to strengthening the partnership between our two countries."
King Mohammed VI added in the same message, "I especially welcome the clear and strong stance adopted by France in your letter concerning the Moroccan Sahara issue. I highly appreciate the clear support your country provides for Morocco's sovereignty over this part of its territory and the steadfast French support for autonomy under Moroccan sovereignty as a solution to this regional conflict, thus affirming the plan proposed by Morocco since 2007 as the sole basis for achieving that."
The King pointed out that "by recognizing Morocco's legal grounds and historical rights, France contributes to reinforcing the international momentum already supported by many countries to put an end to a conflict inherited from another era. Thanks to the significant development in the French position and your strong determination to act accordingly at both the domestic and international levels, our two countries will be able to work together to reach a solution that fully respects, within the framework of United Nations resolutions, Morocco's sovereignty over its Sahara."
King Mohammed VI stated that the Moroccan people and its active forces understand "the importance of this decision, which comes from a permanent member of the Security Council, closely familiar with the past and present of North Africa and a close observer of the development of this regional conflict. In this context, and thanks to the positive momentum witnessed in our bilateral relations, promising prospects open up for our two countries in many strategic sectors, which will contribute to strengthening the exceptional partnership built over decades on friendship and trust."
King Mohammed VI concluded his message by saying, "From this standpoint, and as we have indicated in our previous contacts, I would be pleased to welcome you to Morocco as part of a state visit whose date will be determined through diplomatic channels. Please accept, Mr. President, the highest expressions of my esteem."
