King Mohammed VI pardoned 2,460 people on the 25th anniversary of Throne Day.
According to information obtained by Assahifa, the pardon includes a group of journalists and human rights activists who are either imprisoned in Moroccan jails or being tried in absentia due to their presence outside the country.
The list includes journalists Taoufik Bouachrine, Omar Radi, Souleiman Raissouni, Youssef El Heirch, and media activist Reda El-Tawjani, all of whom are serving sentences in Moroccan prisons. In addition, the pardon benefited Imad Stitou, Hicham Mansouri, Abdel Samad Ait Aicha, and Afaf Bernani.
According to the statement issued by the Ministry of Justice, the beneficiaries of the royal pardon who are currently incarcerated number 2,278 inmates. This includes 171 inmates pardoned from fines and the remainder of their prison sentences, two inmates pardoned for the remainder of their prison sentences, 2,090 inmates who received a reduction in their prison sentences, and 15 inmates whose life sentences were commuted to fixed-term sentences.
As for those benefiting from the royal pardon who are not currently incarcerated, the number totals 182 people. This includes 45 people pardoned from their prison sentences or what remains of them, 9 people pardoned from prison sentences but with fines retained, 121 people pardoned from fines or what remains of them, and 7 people pardoned from both prison and fines.
The Ministry of Justice's statement mentioned that the pardon included a group of those convicted in extremism and terrorism cases, after they "officially declared their adherence to the nation's constants and sacred values, national institutions, revised their ideological positions and rejected extremism and terrorism."
The number of beneficiaries of the pardon in this category was 16 people, including 7 inmates pardoned for the remainder of their prison sentences and 9 inmates who received a reduction in their prison sentences, bringing the total number of pardon beneficiaries to 2,476.
