Morocco's King Mohammed VI received, on Monday at the Royal Palace in Rabat, the foreign ministers of the three member states of the Alliance of Sahel States: Karamoko Jean Marie Traoré of Burkina Faso, Abdoulaye Diop of Mali, and Bakary Yaou Sangaré of Niger.
At the heart of the discussions was Morocco's groundbreaking Atlantic Initiative, aimed at facilitating access for the Sahel countries to the Atlantic Ocean. The foreign ministers conveyed their Heads of State's deep gratitude for the King’s visionary leadership and unwavering support for the region, emphasizing that the Atlantic Initiative represents a major strategic opportunity for the economic transformation of their nations.
They reaffirmed their full support for the project and expressed their commitment to accelerating its implementation, recognizing it as a pivotal step towards greater regional integration, trade expansion, and enhanced connectivity with global markets.
This audience underscored Morocco’s longstanding and dynamic relations with the Sahel countries, built on sincere friendship, mutual respect, and active solidarity. The ministers also updated His Majesty on the institutional and operational developments of the Alliance of Sahel States, which seeks to strengthen coordination and integration among Burkina Faso, Mali, and Niger.
