Morocco has become a rising "commercial and port powerhouse" and a "magnet" for international freight transport operators, wrote Spanish magazine El Mercantil on Thursday.
"Thanks to its rapidly developing port infrastructure, several companies in the sector have opened offices in Morocco to take advantage of its assets and capture the flows of this strategic global hub for trade and logistics," the publication emphasized.
According to El Mercantil, near-shoring and current geopolitical conditions are "significantly" benefiting Morocco, a market that is attracting the interest of many international logistics operators, particularly Spanish ones.
The strategic importance of the Tanger Med port is now well-established, positioning it unequivocally as the leading port in Africa and among the top 20 container ports worldwide, the magazine noted.
In this context, the Spanish magazine reported that "more than 200 multinational companies in the automotive sector have already set up in the Tanger Med free zone, in addition to the textile and aerospace sectors," adding that over 1,300 companies are based there.
Nador West Med, a complex currently under development following the same principles as Tanger Med, aims to complement the major Moroccan port in capturing transshipment flows, the publication stated.
Furthermore, these activities are not limited to production and export, as is the case with the automotive and aerospace sectors, but also position Morocco as a hub for African imports, particularly in the electronics field.
