Tangier Med Port in Morocco has achieved a significant milestone by joining the list of the top 20 container ports worldwide, ranking 19th according to the 2023 Alphaliner classification.
The port's performance has seen remarkable growth, with the number of containers handled increasing by 13.4% in 2023 compared to the previous year.
In terms of numbers, the number of containers handled by Tangier Med Port increased by 1,117,600 in 2023 compared to the previous year, from 7,596,800 containers in 2022 to 8,614,400 containers in 2023.
Tangier Med Port now surpasses all Spanish ports and has become the leader in the Mediterranean region in container handling.
This achievement marks a major milestone in the port's journey, as it has reached 95% of its planned capacity four years ahead of schedule.
The port has several key terminals, including TC1 and TC4 operated by Maersk-APM, and TC3 operated by Tanger Alliance.
In 2023, Tangier Med Port recorded exceptional handling performance, with productivity exceeding 800,000 containers handled per month.
