Police at the Tangier-Med Port managed, on Sunday, in cooperation with the Customs services, to foil an international trafficking operation involving 3.255 tons of chira.
Border control operations and a meticulous search led to the seizure of this drug shipment, which had been carefully concealed inside the trailer of an international goods truck loaded with fish that was about to leave the country by sea to a European port, according to a statement by the General Directorate of National Security (DGSN), adding that the truck driver, a 32-year-old Moroccan, was also arrested.
The suspect was taken into custody to complete the judicial investigation, led by the Tangier-Med port judicial police brigade, under the supervision of the competent public prosecutor's office, with a view to determining the possible ramifications of this criminal activity on a national and international level, and to arresting all the accomplices involved in this case.
This security operation is part of the DGSN's intensive efforts to combat international drug trafficking networks, the statement concluded.
