Trump Appoints Duke Buchan as New U.S. Ambassador to Morocco

U.S. President Donald Trump announced the appointment of Duke Buchan as the new U.S. ambassador to Morocco. In a recent post on his platform, Truth Social, he wrote, "I am pleased to announce that Duke Buchan will serve our country as the United States Ambassador to Morocco."

Trump added that Buchan would play a pivotal role in strengthening peace, freedom, and prosperity between the two nations, congratulating him and his family on the appointment.

Richard Duke Buchan III is a diplomat and businessman who previously served as the U.S. ambassador to Spain and Andorra from 2017 to 2021. He currently holds the position of chief financial officer of the Republican National Committee.

This appointment comes after the departure of the former U.S. ambassador to Morocco, Puneet Talwar, who left his position alongside the end of President Joe Biden’s term. In the interim, diplomat Amy Cutrona has assumed the role of Chargé d’Affaires at the U.S. Embassy in Rabat.

The United States and Morocco share a long-standing diplomatic relationship dating back to 1777, as well as a strong partnership in areas such as regional security, trade, education, and industrial and technological innovation.

Morocco is also a major non-NATO ally of the United States and remains the only African country with a free trade agreement with the U.S.
