Moroccan Minister of Foreign Affairs, Nasser Bourita, held talks in Washington with U.S. Congressman Joe Wilson, a member of the Republican Party. The meeting focused on strengthening the longstanding strategic partnership between Morocco and the United States, with particular attention to regional peace and security.
Discussions during the meeting addressed what were described as the “terrorist activities” of the separatist group Polisario, which continues to destabilize the region with its hostile actions. The issue of the Western Sahara featured prominently in the talks.
In a tweet posted on his official X (formerly Twitter) account, Congressman Wilson expressed his appreciation for the meeting, stating:
“Grateful to meet with Moroccan Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita to discuss our long-standing partnership and commitment to peace in the region including the stability of Western Sahara from Polisario terrorists. The U.S. stands with Morocco for peace.”
Wilson emphasized the U.S. commitment to maintaining peace and stability in the Western Sahara region, affirming that Washington continues to support Morocco against threats posed by the Polisario Front.
This position echoes recent reaffirmations by the U.S. administration of its recognition of Morocco’s sovereignty over its southern provinces. The autonomy plan proposed by Morocco is consistently endorsed by Washington as “the only serious, credible, and realistic solution” to the Sahara dispute.
