World Cup 2030: Morocco Boosts Infrastructure with New Highway Projects

As part of its preparations to host the 2030 FIFA World Cup, Morocco signed two framework agreements on Friday in Rabat aimed at strengthening the country’s highway infrastructure through the development of major strategic projects and the financing of related land expropriations.

The first agreement outlines an investment program worth 12.5 billion dirhams, covering the period from 2025 to 2032. It includes the construction of three key projects: the Rabat-Casablanca Continental Highway, the Tit Mellil-Berrechid Highway, and the redevelopment of the Ain Harrouda and Sidi Maârouf interchanges. These projects aim to improve access to the Grand Stadium of Casablanca and ease traffic congestion between Rabat and Casablanca.

The second agreement focuses on mobilizing 1.2 billion dirhams to compensate landowners as part of the expropriation process for the Rabat-Casablanca Continental Highway — a 60-kilometer project with a total budget estimated at 6.5 billion dirhams. This highway will connect the Rabat Ring Road at the Ain Atiq junction to the Casablanca Ring Road at the Tit Mellil junction.

The agreements were signed by Minister of Equipment and Water Nizar Baraka, Minister Delegate for the Budget Fouzi Lekjaa, along with the directors general of the National Agency for the Strategic Management of State Holdings, the Moroccan National Highways Company (ADM), and the Caisse de Dépôt et de Gestion (CDG).

Minister Baraka emphasized that these projects align with the High Royal Vision to strengthen the national highway network and support infrastructure related to the World Cup. He also praised the effective cooperation of all stakeholders in ensuring the timely implementation of the projects.
