Zapatero describes Morocco as a project focused on open development and modernization

Since the accession of King Mohammed VI to the throne, Morocco has made "giant strides" on the path to progress, becoming an open project of development and modernization, stated former Spanish Prime Minister José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero.

"Morocco has made remarkable progress in terms of political pluralism and economic and social development," Zapatero told MAP on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of HM King Mohammed VI's enthronement.

"The progress of Morocco is very remarkable, and the modernization is extraordinarily intense at all levels," he said, emphasizing the "significant" advancements made in various fields.

These advancements have allowed the Kingdom of Morocco to enjoy great credibility within the international community and to consolidate its status as "the most reliable interlocutor in the region, both for Spain and Europe, as well as for major international powers," Zapatero supported.

He also praised the "very important" role played by the Kingdom in the development of Africa and the Sahel countries.

In this regard, he highlighted the commitment of the King to dialogue, understanding, and sharing, making Morocco a haven of peace and stability.

Zapatero also welcomed the convergence of views between Madrid and Rabat on defending just causes and human rights around the world.

"Morocco and Spain have always been committed to advancing the values of peace, cooperation, and understanding. That is why it is so important for the world that Morocco and Spain set an example," he insisted.
