U17 AFCON (Morocco 2025): Atlas Cubs Determined to ‘Keep Trophy at Home,’ Says Coach

Morocco’s U17 national team, the Atlas Cubs, are determined to "keep the Africa Cup of Nations trophy at home," head coach Nabil Baha declared on Monday in Salé.

"We have a squad full of quality players. Playing on home soil and in front of our supporters is a great advantage," Baha said during a press conference at the Mohammed VI Football Complex, where he unveiled his squad for the tournament set to take place from March 30 to April 19, 2025.

"I'm confident, and the players are highly motivated. This trophy is staying here," the former Atlas Lion asserted.

However, Baha dismissed the notion that Morocco has an easy group, despite some claims to the contrary.

"We have conducted extensive video analysis of our group-stage opponents. They are physically strong and well-organized teams," he noted.

The Moroccan coach also emphasized the increasing competitiveness of African football, stating, "There are no small teams in Africa anymore. Our squad is capable of competing and winning against any opponent."

Baha also praised the Confederation of African Football (CAF) for implementing wrist bone scans to verify players' ages, calling it a crucial step for fairness and athletic balance. "This test will ensure greater equity and competitiveness among players with similar physical capabilities," he added.

Morocco has been drawn into Group A alongside Uganda, Tanzania, and Zambia.

The tournament kicks off on Saturday, March 30, at El Bachir Stadium in Mohammedia, where Morocco will face Uganda. Other host venues include Larbi Zaouli Stadium in Casablanca, Berrechid Municipal Stadium, and El Abdi Stadium in El Jadida.
